Murshid Samuel Lewis 1896-1971
“The spiritual dance has no other purpose, no other aim than to elevate humankind beyond self thought to joy, to bliss, to realization and to peace. The sincere dancer is one of the best workers for universal harmony, and so for universal peace.”
One way we can bring out this aspect of our Dance Practice is to utilize a set of Dances with a theme of Peace.
These might be shared with other peace organizations, or audiences such as church groups as a way to present the Dances that can be understood by the general public.
Here is a list of some examples:
Peaceful Steps – May I take peaceful steps upon the earth
Lyrics, music and movements: Leilah Be
Mir Mirus Mir – Music: Traditional
Words: (verse)—the Rev. Otto Zingg; (countermelody) Neil Douglas-Klotz
Dance: the Rev. Otto Zingg and Neil Douglas-Klotz
Peace Pilgrim – by Grace D. Marie
All My Relations – Peace be with you, Peace be with me – by Grace D. Marie
Montreal Peace – Peace, Peace, Salam, Shalom by Helga Schleeh
O’ Peace, Deep and Divine – Tasnim Hermila Fernandez
Allah ho Akbar – Peace is Power by Maitreya Jon Stevens
Great Spirit – by Yakzan Valdez
Do you have other Dances to suggest that follow this theme? Have you used this as a way to introduce the Dances to a new group?
